How to recognize the problem

Long-lived Joomla websites often depend on templates, customizations and third-party extensions that were not designed for the current PHP runtime.

  • A PHP upgrade causes a blank page or administrator errors.
  • A template or extension was abandoned years ago.
  • A migration stalls due to dependency or database issues.
  • An otherwise functional site has known unsupported components.

What gets investigated

Specific steps depend on the website and available access. A typical review can include:

  1. Inventory Joomla, PHP, database, template and extension versions.
  2. Separate the immediate failure from longer-term unsupported component risk.
  3. Use backups and staging for compatibility testing before major changes.
  4. Recommend stabilization, controlled migration or rebuild according to the evidence.

What a responsible fix looks like

Where possible, restore the essential site while establishing an honest plan for unsupported components.

Boundary: Keeping an unsupported site online indefinitely is not a safe security plan.

What to send with your request

Start with the website URL, what visitors see, when it began and any recent changes. Provide the Joomla version if known and whether a recent backup exists.

Do not include passwords, database dumps, customer information or payment data in the initial request.
